Looking back on this journey through Lent…seeing how Jesus first described His mission by standing in the temple and reading from the book of Isaiah…that he was anointed by the Spirit of God to bind up the brokenhearted, preach good news to the poor, proclaim freedom for the captives, to comfort all who mourn…to give them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair…Then watching as He goes about teaching and healing, bringing this 700 year old prophecy to life…and now watching as this Jesus surrenders to His anointing by taking it to a place so far beyond what we would have imagined had we been present to His suffering…the darkness that covered the earth a sign that the depths of evil were prevailing as Jesus takes on the darkness for us….enduring the pain of total separation from His Father in those moments…so that you and I can have life in abundance, freedom from sin and death….His Spirit now available to us to continue healing, bringing good news to the poor…This brings me to me knees. May I allow His anointing to carry on in me. We don’t have to understand it…we can just say, “Yes.”
